- Альбомный лист бумаги;
- Цветные карандашики;
- Простой карандаш;
- Точилка;
- Ластик

Even if it’s impossible, I want to escape with everyone. Let’s figure it out! I don’t want all of us to die outside. But it isn’t an option to leave them behind. I want Conny to be the last. I’ll never let anyone end up like that again. If there’s no place for humans to live, then let’s make one outside. Let’s change the world. — Emma to Ray and Norman in «The Best Option»

Caring and extroverted, Emma often proves herself to be one of the most reliable orphans and is often seen surrounded by friends. She is known for her incredible ability to learn, capable athleticism, and ample optimism.
Being one of the smartest children living in the Grace Field House, Emma is considered as one of Grace Field House’s three «Premium quality goods» [7] along with Norman and Ray.
After her success of escaping Grace Field alongside Ray and 13 other orphans, Emma seeks to find William Minerva, whom she believes can grant her and her friends the liberty to live a safe and peaceful life away from the demons.

History
Emma was born on August 22, 2034. She was sent to Grace Field House a year later in 2035. Under the parental care of Isabella and the happy times she spent with her fellow foster siblings, Emma had a happy childhood. Due to their close age and probably the fact that they are the top students academically, she was exceptionally close to Norman and Ray out of all the orphans in Grace Field,
During a snowball fight in the winter of January 2039, Norman fainted due to the low temperature and had to be quarantined within the orphanage’s sickbay. Emma, who cannot help to be isolated from her dear friend, sought to sneak into the sickbay and accompany him, but failed in every try as she was caught by Isabella consistently, who forbade her to stay near Norman in fear of how his cold might spread to her. In the end, Emma thought of interacting with Norman via a tin can telephone. Norman chatted with her and the other orphans merrily through the night. [8]
On November 2039, Emma and Norman persuaded Ray to not have his eyes stick to his book all the time. The two invited him to join them to explore the gate that encircles Grace Field House. [9] When the trio reached the gate, they all wondered what lies beyond the walls. Emma asked the two boys what they each want to do once they left the orphanage, merrily saying how she wants to ride a giraffe outside, though Ray was dismissive of her idea. The three recalled how Isabella once warned them how they should never go to the gate or beyond the fence due to danger. The three went back the orphanage soon after. [2]
Appearance
Emma is a young, fair-skinned girl of thin build who has emerald oval-shaped eyes and notably thin eyebrows. Her hair is a light orange color that is short and messy, sticking up at all angles around her head and worn parted to her right with a single longed lock curving upwards to one side from her parting, and another from the base of her neck. Although not as prominent in the manga, it appears to grow darker the further down it goes, ranging from a pale yellow-orange to a darker shade. Like all the other children at the orphanage, Emma wore the standard uniform— a white shirt and skirt along with plain brown shoes. Her identification number, «63194», can be seen on the left side of her neck.
During the escape from Grace Field House, she cut off her left ear to buy time, in which she wore a bandage to cover the wound.
After arriving at Shelter B06-32, Emma stopped wearing the standard uniform, and instead adopting long black pants along with her white button-up. She also donned a white bow around her neck. Later on, she began sporting a black turtleneck with a long, off-white overcoat with several buttons.
Emma also wears a necklace ever since receiving it from Mujika. The necklace is shaped like an eye, with the center being a globe-like feature, and the setting being golden.
During the Goldy Pond Battle Arc, Emma begins braiding a small portion of the left side of her hair in order to conceal her missing ear. She uses a green clip along with two crossing yellow and blue clips to hold her hairstyle in place. Emma’s outfit is substantially more colorful for the duration of this arc, wearing a red long-sleeved shirt, a cropped yellow jacket with green accents, and blue jeans.
By the time of 2047, Emma has grown much taller, being at least 160 cm. She begins wearing her white button-up, her black pants, brown boots, bow, and necklace once again.
By the time of 2049 after arriving in the Human World, Emma grows even taller and develops a bigger frame. She begins wearing warm, fur-coats due to living in a very cold place. Since her past memories are gone, her farm identifier ceased as well. [10]
Personality
Emma is an extremely optimistic, loud, and cheerful girl full of life, whose athletic abilities and extroverted nature contracts directly to Norman’s weak physique and Ray’s introverted nature. [2] Emma plays the part as an elder sister figure among her younger ones, and always shows unlimited love and care for her fellow foster siblings. When she discovered Conny’s corpse and the truth behind Grace Field and Isabella, Emma underwent an emotional change and decided to never cry again and stay steadfast with her beliefs and decisions. [11] Following this event, Emma’s desire to escape is fueled by her love for her family; refusing to leave anyone behind since she doesn’t want her siblings to suffer the same fate as Conny, showing the compassion, selfless, and altruistic side of her. She is also shown to be very forgiving, as she doesn’t think any less of Ray for being the “traitor”, still embraces him as a friend, and sympathizes with him. According to Krone, Emma always thinks of others before herself, so much that she dilutes her chances to save herself by refusing to leave any of her family behind. [12] She is also shown to be impulsive, brave, determined, and dauntless, as she willingly puts herself in harm’s way to protect her family and even strangers without any hesitation. [13]
Despite being a perfect test-scorer and a very quick learner, Emma is noted to be silly and air-headed. Her goal of saving every orphan from Grace Field House was deemed as impossible, but she still believed she could achieve it, hence being called an airhead by Ray. [14] Additionally, her overt optimism and cheerfulness lead her to sometimes make important decisions by herself, such as cutting off her ear during the escape even though she didn’t even mention it in the plan. [15] But she starts relying on her friends and family more after being told to, and comes to learn and pick up knowledge from them. Despite having a very idealistic mindset and somewhat of a naïve personality, Emma is extremely honest, has a very strong will, and refuses to give up no matter what obstacles she faces or how bleak the situation looks. She works hard and succeeds through sheer determination, to the point that Ray notes that defying the impossible is Emma’s special trait. [16]
Emma often keeps a high-spirited and kind demeanor, but she can become serious if the situation calls for it, especially when it comes to the lives of the other children. When she feels that she or her family are threatened, she isn’t afraid to show her intimidating side. After finding out that Ray was a spy, she asked him if he moved up other children’s shipping dates to figure out how to disable the trackers. He didn’t answer, but she made it clear that she wouldn’t tolerate it if he tried to sacrifice anyone else. [17]
After escaping from Grace Field, Emma gradually takes up the role of a leader, and will do anything to protect her family. For example, she becomes determined to learn about hunting and handling guns and rifles, and she apparently has «the eyes of a killer» when facing dangerous situations, according to Leuvis. [13] Emma does indeed call herself a huntress, but not in the same way as the demons. She also got Mister to help them out upon arriving at the Shelter B06-32 by threatening that if he didn’t, she and Ray would just blow up the shelter, all while bearing a cheery smile. [18]
However, Emma is also at times seen as being self-conscious and doubtful as to her position as the leader. Her greatest fear is making the wrong decisions and putting her family in danger and blames wrongdoings on herself. She also has trouble speaking her mind about how she truly feels and tends to bottle up her feelings. The only person she’ll admit this to is Ray, however. [19] [16] Even after being encouraged to rely on other people, Emma will still bear her burdens alone and be selfless to a fault if it means that her family will be safe; she agrees on forgetting about herself, her family, and every event in her life so every cattle child could safely arrive in the Human World. [10] [4]
Emma is a peaceful person who prefers to talk things out rather than fighting, even when the other party is trying to kill her. Even though she despises most demons and the fact that they eat humans, she is fond of Mujika and realizes that demons have families and friends too, just like herself. Moreover, Emma is deeply uncomfortable with Norman’s plan of committing genocide against the demons, as she is an emphasizing, determined person who never takes shortcuts or the easy way. Instead, she opted to reforge the «Promise» made 1000 years and enter The Seven Walls, a task which was seen as impossible, very reckless, and dangerous to people around her, to avoid killing all the demons.
Introduction Arc
Taking daily tests, playing a game of tag, eating scrumptious homemade food, and having a good time – Emma went through the same routine every day in Grace Field House, an orphanage where she lived since the day she was born. Under the loving care of Isabella, who she refers to as «Mom», and the companionship of Norman, Ray, and the other orphans, Emma spent a pleasant childhood in Grace Field.
When the day came for Conny to be sent off to foster parents, Emma and the other orphans gave a tearful goodbye as they bade farewell to the child. Sometime after Conny left with Isabella, Emma found Conny’s beloved stuffed toy on a tabletop in the house. Wanting to return it to Conny, Emma proceeded to the gates of Grace Field to search for the girl under Norman’s company. Instead of finding Conny, Emma and Norman found Conny’s corpse within a truck instead, as they stared in pure horror upon seeing their friend dead. The two later hid under the truck as they witness two demons inserting Conny’s dead body into a jar. Isabella revealed to be working for the demons, as the two witnesses in shock of how Isabella is evil. As Emma and Norman returned to Grace Field unnoticed, the stuffed toy, Little Bunny, was left behind, which was eventually found by the two demons and Isabella.
After fleeing the scene, Emma collapsed onto the ground in despair, as she recalls the traumatic scene she and Norman just witnessed, which soon led her to break down in tears. Norman consoled Emma and told her not to speak of the incident to anyone.
During the next few days, Emma and Norman remained silent and secretive about Conny’s death and the existence of demons; put on an innocent and childlike façade whenever they interact with Isabella, who was suspecting the two.
With the introverted yet intelligent Ray, the three began to devise an escape plan to rescue the orphans from Isabella and the demons’ clutches. Emma wanted to save every single orphan, which greatly bothered Ray as he viewed her goal to be impossible to achieve. The three learned and gathered every possible information they could get about the outside world and to aid in their eventual escape. Ray helped in plotting the escape plan. Isabella eventually got Krone appointed as Grace Field’s second caretaker (as the orphans’ «Sister»), an additional obstacle for Emma, Norman, and Ray to deal with. Krone tried to get in the way of the trio, much to their dismay.
Jailbreak Arc
Emma, Norman, and Ray eventually recruited Don and Gilda into the team as additional help and told them about the secrets behind Grace Field, Isabella, and the existence of Demons. Along the way, the five -aced obstacles and issues whilst working together, such as the interference of Isabella and Krone; suspicions of Gilda being on the enemies’ side; Ray’s double-crossing; and Don’s unhappiness towards the limited trust Emma, Norman and Ray had on him and Gilda, whom they did not tell the entirety of their plan and motives to.
When the Emma and her team finally managed to put Ray’s escape plan into work, it was, however, foiled by Isabella, as she fractured Emma’s leg and revealed how Norman will be the next to suffer the same fate as Conny (sending him off to the demons).
The team and the plan began to fall apart, with Norman being sent off from Grace Field; Ray excluding himself in aiding the plan; Emma falling into depression whilst being immobilized to help; and Isabella’s success in beating them. Months passed as the remaining four orphans resumed their daily routine in Grace Field and maintained the innocent demeanor they once had.
On January 2046, Emma and Ray – fueled by the thirst for vengeance of their presumably dead friend – re-enacted the escape plan and revealed how the fact that they had given up during the last few months was all just an act. While Isabella closely watched her and Ray, Don and Gilda continued preparing for their escape. Ray proposes they set the house on fire that night as a distraction. After Emma agrees, Ray reveals that he plans to set himself alight, to distract Isabella and deny the demons their feast. As the clock chimes midnight, the now twelve-year-old Ray starts the fire. As it spreads, the children evacuate and Emma severs her ear so she cannot be tracked. Isabella tries to extinguish the fire and save Ray, who she thinks is engulfed in flames, but the children had wrapped meat and hair in his clothes as a decoy.
Months earlier, Norman told Emma of Ray’s plan to burn himself and prepared a counter-plan for her, which meant that they were already prepared to escape. Emma had only pretended to give up for the last two months, and she was, in reality, giving out orders to the other kids. When Ray is saved, he is visibly shaken by Emma’s interference of his suicide plan, but before he is able to say anything more, Emma slaps him and forces him to go escape with her, refusing to let him die. Emma then tells Ray that she’ll take out his tracker from his ear.
The children reach the boundary and prepare to scale the wall, but Ray notices the younger ones are not with them. It is revealed in a flashback that Phil tells Emma that he suspected the purpose of the farm all along, and accepted that the under four-year-olds would stay, hoping to be freed before being harvested. Emma promises to back within two years to free Phil and all the cattle children from the other plantations.
After Don first throws a rope across the channel, the children begin to cross to the forest using ropes and coat hangers as zip lines. When there is no sign of the children at the bridge, Isabella runs along the wall and arrives in time to see Emma. Emma, being the last child, bids farewell to her beloved former home, the house, and lastly her «mama» and crosses into the forest before the lines are cut. Emma is overjoyed to have made it outside and gives her gratitude to Norman for making it possible. The escapees soon see their first sunrise outside the farm.
Promised Forest Arc
After escaping from the farm, Emma and her family are being chased by farm demons who wish to bring them back to the farms or just kill them right on spot. When things are looking dire, they are saved by Mujika and Sonju. Although they were initially antagonized and suspicious of them due to them being demons, they warm up the two demons. Sonju explains about the outside world, The «Promise» and other critical information. Emma also asks Sonju to teach her how to hunt in order to survive in the world and protect her family.
Emma also becomes good friends with Mujika, and she gives Emma a necklace as a symbol of «a good-luck charm» and tells her to look for the «Seven Walls». After receiving their hospitality and sure they are able to continue to their journey, Emma and her group bids farewell to Sonju and Mujika.
Search For Minerva Arc
After some wandering, Emma and the other children reached Shelter B06-32 and took refuge in it for more than a year. There, she met Mister with whom she developed a deep bond over time. Emma and Ray make their way to Goldy Pond along with Mister.
Goldy Pond Battle Arc
Emma wakes up from her coma, her family by her side.
However, Emma is kidnapped by the Poachers and is forced to fight to survive. She meets the Goldy Pond Resistance and Lucas, and they devise a plan to destroy Goldy Pond and kill the Poachers. They are soon joined by Ray and Mister who arrive, and they all together defeat Leuvis and the other Poachers and successfully destroy Goldy Pond.
Emma was gravely injured but managed to survive. She was carried back to the shelter by Mister and was in a coma for 4 weeks, before finally waking up to her whole family by her side.
Cuvitidala Arc
More than a year has passed, Emma and her group infiltrated into a demon village in disguise after their success in finding the Golden Waters and the temple as they walked through the village to the direction of Shelter B06-32. They soon returned to the shelter and reunited with Mister, Lucas and the others. [20]
When Emma was disclosing her findings of the temple, Pepe came running into the room, warning them about an ambush. There was soon an explosion near one of the doors of the shelter, Emma and the other shelter inhabitants went into hiding. Andrew and his team went inside as they began to hunt for them. [21] As Andrew was ransacking the shelter, Emma insisted on abandoning the shelter and finding a safer place for all of them to live in. After all of them agreed with her, Emma proceeded to guide them to find an exit through the shelter’s underground tunnel. [22]
King of Paradise Arc
Emma, Ray, and the rest of the children arrive at the Paradise Hideout after escaping from the shelter. There, they are reunited with Norman.
Seven Walls Arc
Emma and Ray go to find the Seven Walls in order to reforge The Promise with .
Imperial Capital Battle Arc
After Emma successfully has reforged The Promise by herself, she makes her way to the royal capital with her friends and Mujika and Sonju in order to stop Norman to follow through with his extermination plan.
Return to Grace Field Arc
Emma and her team make their way to Grace Field House to save their family and friends who were kidnapped by Peter Ratri.
Human World Arc
Emma arrives in a cold place in the Human World safely, but alone. She is found sleeping in the snow by a kind elderly man who takes her in. When she comes to, Emma realizes she doesn’t remember her own name, where she came from, or her past memories and future connections. It is revealed that granted Emma’s wish to take every child to the Human World in exchange for Emma’s memories and her never seeing her family again, to which she agreed.
The kind man offers Emma a place to sleep and food until she regains her memories and until spring comes, since he lives in a place where there is no signal and no nearby villages. The months go by and Emma doesn’t regain her memories. However, because of the necklace she got from Mujika, Emma dreams about her forgotten family and friends calling out to her, but she always forgot about them once she wakes up. One morning after waking from such a dream, Emma finds the elderly man outside, mourning his deceased family members. After hearing his story about his family, Emma tells him that even though she doesn’t know or remember the people in her dreams, she still longs for them and finds herself crying because of it.
Two years pass and «Emma» mentions that she knows that she wouldn’t regain her memories or remember who she was before. However, she also states that she is okay with it, especially since her recurring dreams had ceased. She continues living happily with the elderly man, whom became a foster father for her of a sort. She receives a new name and finds herself a new identity.
One day during spring 2049, “Emma” and her foster father go into town for grocery shopping. “Emma” is amazed to see so many people and houses and excitedly wanders around. [10] She enters a shop with her foster father while he suddenly notes that Emma does not have her necklace, and “Emma” goes outside to search for it. When she finds it, she also sees Ray, Norman, Don, Gilda, and the other children in front of her. Everyone rejoices upon finding “Emma” after two years, but “Emma” backs off, as she does not know anyone. It is revealed that when Emma made the Promise with the Demon God back at the Seven Walls, she was sad over the price she had to pay to implement the Promise, as in forgetting her precious family. However, she also describes it as settling her selfish requests rather than a sacrifice, as it was her idea to avoid Norman’s plan of the extermination of the demons. She thanks the Demon God for being able to give all of her friends and family a happy future where they don’t have to live in fear.
Emma decides to live on with her forgotten family.
Back to the present, the children try to make “Emma” recognize them, but “Emma” pushes them away; confused and scared. While everyone is struck by sadness due to “Emma’s” forgotten memories, Norman begins crying tears of joy and just expresses his relief on “Emma’s” well-being. He goes on to explain their happy and healthy new life in the human world, and he thanks “Emma” for everything she has done for their family. Even so, Norman is saddened by “Emma’s” forgotten memories, as he had actually wanted to have her with them, smiling with them. “Emma” suddenly begins crying herself, and she mentions that even though she doesn’t know anyone of them, she feels like she had always wanted to see them. The other children exclaim that they wanted to see her as well, and that they missed her so much. Norman tells “Emma” that it’s fine even if she forgot all about them and if she is different from who she used to be, because everyone still wanted to be with her regardless. The story ends with “Emma”, Ray, and Norman holding hands while surrounded by all of their friends and family, with “Emma” promising to live on together with them. [4]
Skills and Abilities
Intelligence
Emma was considered as one of the three geniuses of Grace Field. Although she isn’t as intelligent as Norman or Ray are, she is able to compete with them on an intellectual level.
Emma has astounding learning ability, which allowed her to receive full marks on nearly every test and memorize things perfectly, as she said it would be easy to remember 10 types of team formation by ear. She has proven to know and understand Morse code.
She can pick up techniques from others very quickly, being capable of copying Mister’s ability to move without making any sounds in order to prevent any demons from finding them.
Emma has strong lateral thinking skills and is extremely perceptive. She understood that the world in the Seven Walls changed by combining their minds with their conscious and unconscious thoughts, therefore being able to reach the dimension in which lives, something that not even Ray could do. «Him» described that Emma’s mind is delicious and has exceeded the limits of understanding her world.
Emma has uncanny emotional insights as well as a great ability to manipulate her expressions and feelings, fooling even Isabella, who checked her pulse.
Agility
Due to her capable athleticism, Emma has great physical abilities and amazing reflexes. She has the most energy and best physical capacity out of any of the other orphans in the house. Emma was always the last one to be caught in the hide-and-seek games at Grace Field, only being caught by Norman because of his strategic thinking.
Skilled Accuracy
Emma shoots a wild man-eater with a great aim
Emma’s physical ability and intellect allowed her to learn to fight and hunt with ease. When she and Ray are ordered by Mister to equip themselves with necessary weapons before traveling to Goldy Pond, she chose a hand bow. Along the journey, Emma made use of the hand bow to defend herself from the demons, which was shown when she used it to kill a wild man-eater with great accuracy. She is also shown to be as good with rifles. [23]
Enhanced Stamina
Emma stood up, unflinched by the wounds she got from Leuvis’ attack.
Emma has proven herself to possess incredible stamina. Together with Ray, she managed to follow Mister for hours without slowing down or losing track of him. She also has managed to take continual, deadly assaults from foes and continue fighting. Such impressive resistance was first shown during her fight with Leuvis, in which she received wounds from her opponent’s strong, sharp claws and nonetheless kept fighting on. [24]
Relationships
Norman
Emma and Norman in a photo.
Emma and Norman have been close throughout their entire lives and often spent time together ever since they were toddlers. Emma sees Norman as one of her best friends and someone precious to her. Both parties care deeply for the opposite’s well-being and do not hesitate to save each other when one is in distress. Emma and Norman are willing to sacrifice much for the other’s sake, albeit not always initially, and have risked their lives more than once to help each other out.
Ever since the truth about the ‘orphanage’ was revealed, Emma states that Norman has been by her side and supporting her. Norman comforted her when she was breaking down after discovering about Conny’s death, and when she cried, Norman smiled at her. This inspired Emma to stay strong, never cry again, and escape with him and all of her siblings. [25]
Although Emma has always trusted Norman, it becomes more evident as he was the only person aside from Ray that Emma initially places her trust on; often depending on Norman and sees him as the team’s trump card due to his vast intelligence for his age. Norman is also one of the few people that Emma feels comfortable confiding anything in, including her troubles and views on different matters. Norman has also stated that he loves and admires Emma and will do anything and everything to protect her. Emma is seemingly oblivious to these feelings, though.
After Norman’s shipment, Emma was depressed due to the absence of her best friend, but she became even more determined to escape since she wouldn’t allow Norman’s efforts to go to vain. After managing to escape from Grace Field House, Emma has mentioned Norman several instances and still sees him as one the most precious people to her. Although his absence has affected her and she misses him dearly, Norman is one of Emma’s main motivations to never give up and continue fighting. Emma has also stated that she will take care of everything he requested of her before his shipment, as well as accomplish all of Norman’s dreams when she succeeds going to the human world.
When they are reunited two years later and Emma comes to the realization that Norman was, in fact, alive, she breaks down in tears and hugs him out of joy. It is proved that there was no rift created between them despite the long time they didn’t see each other. Emma states that she is happy that he hasn’t changed, will be able to see him every day, and most importantly, that he is alive and well. [26]
However, soon after, Emma begins feeling uncomfortable by Norman’s plan to commit genocide against the demons. Emma decides to confess her feelings about these matters, but Norman is against Emma’s plans and they do not reach an agreement as their world-views and ideals are completely different. Emma and Norman have also grown independent from each other compared to their time in Grace Field House as they are now fighting for what they themselves believe is right. However, much like her situation with Ray, Emma does not let their differences get in the way of their friendship, and it is still clear that Emma and Norman love and care deeply about each other. Emma understands the burden that Norman carries by taking up the mantle of a «god» and «William Minerva», which is why she states that she will never let Norman suffer on his own ever again. She is also determined to support him in the best way she can, even if she doesn’t agree with him. [27]
Even after Norman carried out his genocide plan, Emma was able to see through him; that he was scared, did everything by himself since he didn’t want to burden anyone, and that he, in reality, didn’t want to commit genocide. Although she calls him out for being cowardly and arrogant, she sympathizes with him and reassures him that he is not alone anymore. Emma mentions that she wants to walk alongside Norman without being protected by him, facing and sharing the painful and scary things. After a while, Norman is able to accept Ray and Emma’s support and the three reconcile, vowing to never let anyone out of them to bear their burdens alone. [28]
Emma has been best friends with Ray ever since they were toddlers. Despite the two’s contrasting personalities— Ray’s serious and well-reserved attitude and Emma’s flightiness and optimism— which occasionally leads to personality clashes, bickering and disagreements, the two love each other regardless and help each other when one is in distress. They do not let their differences get in the way of their friendship, and they are always able to work things out and face no difficulties working together. Emma often encourages Ray to be more open and out-going, and frequently invites him to join the orphans in games such as a game of tag, and not have his head buried in a book all the time. Likewise, Ray encourages Emma to speak up, honestly tell people what’s on her mind, and not to bottle up her feelings.
After discovering the truth behind the House and Isabella, Ray was the only other person besides Norman that Emma initially put her trust in when they strategized their plan to escape from Grace Field. Even after she found out Ray was the traitor, Emma still embraced Ray as her sibling and best friend and sympathized with him for suffering alone for so long, but she also tells him to never do something in the same manner again. She cares for Ray and his well-being deeply, so she was absolutely against the idea of Ray sacrificing himself to aid in their escape. Although Emma had to sacrifice her ear for Ray, Emma states that it does not matter, as the fact that Ray is happy and alive is more than enough for her. [29]
Upon finding out he is alive, Emma tearfully hugs Ray.
Ever since their escape from Grace Field, Emma and Ray have been working together and helping each other out in everything. Due to Norman’s absence, they have become very protective and loyal to one another and Emma will not hesitate to rush to Ray’s side when he is in danger and vice-versa. She also respects Ray and has deep faith in his abilities, as she entrusts him to lure away wild demons on his own, as well as aid her in her own fights.
The two views one another as equals and are able to tell their true feelings to the opposite party, and as so they have formed many important decisions together which benefit themselves, their whole family, as well as other «cattle children». Additionally, Emma often seeks him out as her comfort and voice of reason, as the only person she’ll tell her doubts to and ask for advice is him.
Although the two of them still have disagreements, different world-views, and Ray admitting that he agrees with Norman’s plans and doesn’t empathize with Emma’s doubts, he still decides to follow her in whichever path she chooses and fully supports her. Emma is deeply grateful for this, is appreciative, and feels comfortable having him by her side. [30]
Gilda
Growing up together, Emma and Gilda have been close throughout their lives. Emma views Gilda as one of her closest friends and a sisterly figure. After Norman and Ray, Gilda and Don were the only people that Emma put her trust in after discovering the truth behind the orphanage. Emma trusts Gilda to such an extent that she strongly believed that she was not Isabella’s spy when others believed so. The two girls love and care for each other very much and both parties go to great lengths to make sure they are safe. Due to Emma’s reckless nature, Gilda tends to reprimand her, which Emma actually appreciates, because the fact that Gilda always looks after her makes Emma happy.
Emma and Don grew up as close siblings in Grace Field House. Both get along well and care about one another. Emma also trusts Don, as he was one the few first people she recruited into their escape plan. Don’s words and desire for Emma to have faith in him since they are family regarding the situation with their escape, [31] proved to hold great importance for Emma, as she came to understand that her siblings weren’t as immature as she once thought. She, therefore, proceeded to recruit everyone over the age of five to the escape plan. After this, Emma begins viewing Don as one of her closest and trusted allies. Emma has deep faith in Don and his abilities, and can, therefore, confide much to him and entrust him to aid her in her plans. Don also respects Emma as a leader and her decisions even if he doesn’t always agree with them.
Emma views Phil as her precious sibling who she thinks is very sweet, and from Phil’s side, he admires her as an older sister. Emma always looks after Phil and they often play together. Both parties care for each other, and when Emma was depressed due to Norman’s shipment, Phil tearfully hugged her. Emma seems to have a lot of faith in Phil and trusts him, as he is the only sibling under the age of four whom Emma told the truth of the orphanage before she escaped. Following the escape from Grace Field House, Emma is determined to return to Grace Field within two years and take him and her other siblings to the human world.
Conny
Emma has closely watched over Conny ever since she arrived at the orphanage, and Emma views her as a younger sister and encourages her in the things she is unsure about. When Emma finds Conny’s corpse, she breaks down in a traumatic state due to the loss of her dear sister. [2] Witnessing Conny’s death motivated Emma to escape with the rest of her siblings in hopes of never letting her siblings suffer the same fate as Conny. After the escape of Grace Field House, Conny is one of Emma’s main motivations to fight for a future where children don’t have to become food, and Emma holds Conny dearly in her heart.
Isabella
From birth, Emma has viewed Isabella as her beloved mother, the one who raised and taught her, despite their lack of blood relation. [2] However, this soon changes when she discovers Isabella’s true motive — to raise her and her fellow siblings to become food for the Demons. Isabella’s image of a perfect mother soon shattered in Emma’s eyes, and she now sees Isabella as nothing but a threat to her and her siblings.
Despite that, it is implied that Emma still considers Isabella as her «mother» and an important person to her in present. This is evident during her near-death experience, as Isabella was the last person Emma saw in her «dream» and encouraged her to not give up, before Emma got motivated to stand up and continue fighting. [32]
Mujika
Emma’s relationship with Mujika was initially rocky, due to believing that all demons are evil. However, after getting to know each other and bonding over different things, the two became very close friends. They can confide anything to the opposite party, cares about each other’s wellbeing, and trusts one another deeply. Meeting Mujika re-shaped Emma’s views on demons as a whole, and she views Mujika as her savior and claims it is because of her that she has come so far. [33] [34] Ever since Mujika gave Emma a necklace as a «good luck charm», [35] Emma has never stopped wearing it, showcasing how dear Mujika is to Emma. It is later shown how much Emma cares about Mujika when Norman suggests killing Mujika, «the girl with cursed blood»; she is completely distraught by the suggestion and refuses to let her close friend be killed, claiming that she would never be able to smile in a world that let her dear friend get killed. [36] The reason Emma went to search for the Seven Walls, a very dangerous task, was to avoid Norman’s plan of extermination of the demon race, and by extent, keeping Mujika and Sonju safe. [37] Emma later admits that her compassion of demons and not wanting to get them all killed was because of her meeting with Mujika and Sonju. Because of this, Emma developed the thought that if she was dying, she would be fine with Mujika or Sonju eating her. [34]
Sonju
Emma was initially intimidated by Sonju due to him being a demon, but nonetheless warms up to him once she gets to know him. It also puts her at ease that he apparently doesn’t eat human meat, which re-shaped Emma’s views on demons as a whole. [34] Emma respects Sonju greatly, holds him in high regard, and is confident in his skills and abilities. Because of this, Sonju was the one who Emma asked to teach her how to hunt. [38] Because of how much he has taught her about hunting, survival skills, and the outside world, as well as provided their family hospitality and help. Emma calls Sonju and Mujika their saviors and dear friends. This is why she is absolutely against Norman’s plan of exterminating the demons, claiming that she will never let Sonju or Mujika get killed, [36] showcasing how much she cares for him. Emma also admits that her reason for not wanting to kill all demons is because of meeting Sonju and Mujika. Because of this, Emma developed the thought that if she was dying, she would be fine with either of them eating her. Although it is known that Sonju has a desire to prey on «wild» humans not raised in the farms in the future again, [35] he is visibly vexed by Emma’s words and has seemingly changed his mind about this matter. [34]
Mister
Emma initially showed skepticism and a tint of hatred towards Mister, which is however unmatched by his much greater hatred towards her. Being a forgiving and trusting person, Emma does not hold grudge against Mister even after he threatened to kill her a couple of times, noticeably when he shoots her or when he used her and Ray as bait to lure a man-eater. Emma is highly aware of the animosity Mister displayed towards her, nevertheless, she tried to get on good terms with him and explained her goal of saving the orphans in Grace Field, which changed the man’s perspective on life as he started to regret his decision to get Emma killed in Goldy Pond. Therefore, the hostility between Emma and Mister starts to lessen.

During the fight Emma, Mister, Ray and a few members of the Goldy Pond Resistance had against Leuvis, Emma was keen and eager to know Mister’s name, while the opposite sheepishly promised to reveal to her afterward, showing the progressing friendship and acceptance the two started to have.
As promised, Mister finally revealed his name to Emma.
As time flies, Emma begins to see Mister in a new light as both sides accept each other as friends, this was shown when Mister finally revealed his name to Emma, as the latter smiled warmly at him. [39] As time passed, Emma became a daughter figure to Mister, evident when Emma and Ray were preparing to search for Cuvitidala, Mister recommended the two to have Violet and Zack to accompany them. Gillian then figured out how Mister had become increasingly caring towards Emma and Ray as it showed how much he is concerned about the two’s safety. When Emma and the rest left, Lucas called Mister a «mother hen» as he kept worrying on Emma and the others’ safety. [40]
Mister also tends to share his words of wisdom with Emma, and encourages her to stay with her choices and is confident that Emma will able to change the world. All this is why Emma is completely devastated when she finds out about Mister’s death. However, Mister also comes to be one of Emma’s main motivations to keep fighting for a future for the cattle children, and Emma swears she will make it the human world for his sake. [41]
Peter Ratri
Emma mentions that she hates Peter and his underlings for everything they have put her family, friends, and all the children of the farm system through, and can never forgive them. Nonetheless, even when she had the chance, Emma had no intention of killing Peter; preferring to talk things over. Even though Emma does not like Peter, she can sympathize with his situation and circumstances, and even tries to put herself in his shoes. She understands that despite his horrible deeds, Peter just did whatever he could to protect the two worlds. This is why Emma invites him to go to the human world with everyone and live alongside her, positive that he can change. [42] Emma’s words make Peter realize a few things he hadn’t before, in which he comes to the conclusion that he wants to die as Ratri. Before committing suicide, Peter imaged how life would have been if he had been born in Grace Field and become friends with Emma and the others, though he mentions that it could never happen since they are so different. Upon Peter’s death, Emma is seen to be devastated, but tells Peter to watch them; dedicated to getting to the human world to prove Peter wrong. [43] [44]
